Summary Edit

On 29th September 2002, comedians from all over the UK descended upon the Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End to pay tribute to the late comedian Peter Cook, who had died in 1995 from a gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Cook was a celebrated comedian known for his dry wit and unusual manner of speaking, and made appearances on The Secret Policeman's Ball, Monty Python and Blackadder.

Relevance to Bottom Edit

Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson attended the event and performed an 8-minute sketch in the guise of their Bottom characters. In the sketch they attempted to re-enact one of Cook's sketches, but the dimwitted Eddie and over-excited Richie bumbled the performance and got it confused with other sketches from the same era, to rapturous applause from the audience. Rik also performs a spot-on impression of Cook to much cheering from the crowd.

Notes Edit

In a behind the scenes look at Rik and Ade's performance, Rik is seen talking about a thong he was told to wear, whilst stood trouserless in his dressing room.

Before heading on stage, Rik lowers a boom mic and tells the camera "Everyone else is shit, me and Ade are going to sort this out!"

The show in its entirety has been generally panned by critics and fans, with Rik and Ade's performance often described as the highlight.
